Founder of Taekwon-Do

NTA UK honour and promote the legacy of the Founder Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi 9th Dan ITF Taekwon-Do. This piece is found at http://itfofficial.org/?page_id=2178 General Choi Hong Hi was born in November 1918 (or December according to western calendars) in northern part of Korea before Korea became two nations. His early life was peppered with incidents that demonstrated his determination and rebellious nature against the occupying forces of the Japanese nation, one such example was his expulsion from school at age 12 for leading a protest against the Japanese.

Taekwon-Do History

Technically, 1955 signalled the beginning of Taekwon-Do as a formally recognized art in Korea. On the 11th of April 1955, a special board was summoned by General Choi to decide on the unified name of Taekwon-Do. After much debate, the five major Kwans, Chung Do Kwan, Oh Do Kwan, Song Moo Kwan, Chang Moo Kwan, Ji Do Kwan, and Moo Duk Kwan accepted the name because it closely resembled the name of the ancient Korean martial art, Tae Kyon. This single unified name of Taekwon-Do replaced the different and confusing terms, such as Dang Soo, Gong Soo, Taek Kyon, and Kwon Bup.

Master Hodson President NTA UK

Master Hodson is the President of the National Taekwon-Do Alliance UK and has the following message for its members:

”Welcome to our new website and our new association established in 2019. National Taekwon Do Alliance UK (NTA UK) is the result of our years of training and teaching Taekwon-Do.  We (me, my wife Simone Hodson V degree, and our Fortitude Team) have been running successful schools since 1995.  We have our main schools, franchise, and associated schools now with around 1300 students training each week from the age of 3yrs to 60yrs+.

It has always been a goal of ours to reach out to our communities and share the beauty and life changing potential of Martial Arts, in our case ITF Taekwon-Do.  NTA UK has been put together to initially serve our instructors and students with all the courses, gradings and competitions required to continue to run successfully and professionally.  NTA UK supplies first aid, safeguarding, instructor training, risk assessment, health, and safety courses for all our affiliated instructors.

We work with and alongside NEST Management and offer the latest in all government guidelines and criteria for running safe, compliant classes. We also offer our students Black Belt gradings and certificates officially recognised by ITF HQ Korea the home of Taekwon-Do.

WE FOLLOW THE TENETS OF TAEKWON DO INSIDE & OUTSIDE OUR DOJANGS

We see this as just our beginning with NTA UK and it is our aim to continue its growth to become a leading recognised association within the UK. I had the greatest honour and privilege of training under the founder Grand Master Choi Hong Hi on two occasions performing both Yul Gok and Do San in his presence I will never forget those experiences and what they meant to me. We cannot have those experiences again sadly however it is our desire to share his teaching with as many people as is possible and in doing so go some way in promoting Gen Choi’s legacy and ultimately to build a more peaceful world.  It is when we are on a path to reaching our fullest potential that we become happier healthier and of a greater service to our communities and therefore humanity.”

Master David Hodson VII

Our endeavour is developing and supporting dedicated Instructors to teach General Choi’s ITF Taekwon-Do to students in safe, happy and healthy environments, without discrimination on any basis; this includes race, religion, sex, sexual orientation and political beliefs.
